What you aspire to achieve in d:CON 4

Ever since I was little, I always have the urge of trying something new. I later found out that my dream is very different from any other girls from my class. I love adventurous activities, which explains why I join scouts. Building tower and shelters are part of scouting, and that was the time when I realise the close bond I have with buildings, or any hands on work. I started off with having much interest in the subject life skills (known as kemahiran hidup back then) which eventually develop to scoutings. My profound love for nature was taken notice from all the camps I took part in. I make vows of wanting to travel whenever I can, as part of contribution for me to have clearer view of the world of architecture. As for now, my task is to work hard and stay focus on what I should do for the rest of this semester. I love telling stories, in whichever way that suits the situation.

What are the ingredients in you that you think will contribute to d:CON 4

I always find ways to be better student, and have better understanding in architecture. In contrary of this, I set a goal for myself and will try my best to achieve what I need to achieve. As architecture is very subjective, there is always no right or wrong but it is our task as a student to brush up our skills just so we could produce better architecture in future. Something I neglect to do every major break time, and every time I regret not doing it. Buy a fresh new sketchbook and each day fill a page. Whether you sketch an architectural idea, sketch some details, sketch a building in your city or even just sketch everyday objects. Just make sure to keep your hand moving. On top of that, borrow a few books from the library and begin reading more than what your history subject assigns.

Tell us something about you, your ego, things that made up You...

Growing up I a small town called Sitiawan, my family always stress on the importance of education. Being a fast learner, I did pretty well in my studies. The fact that I hated books and reading stuffs which makes me find them boring makes me forget about wanting to continue my studies in higher level. I love drawing random stuffs, and I really enjoy learning about building. Picking architecture as the course I would be studying about for the rest of my life is indeed a huge turnover. Architecture is not as simple as it looks : buildings and drawings. Architecture consists of very much more. It is where I found out that I actually didn’t know much about myself and with architecture, I am learning to understand myself better.

How would you construe the current assignment in d:CON 4

Over the course of 20 months leading up to their capture in 1943, the facility which was their home and clinic, doubled up as a base for Sybil to aid guerilla fighters resisting the Japanese occupation of Malaya during World War 2. From the shophouse, she covertly supplied soldiers hiding out in the surrounding hills with medical aid and information gleaned from BBC broadcasts on banned short-wave radio sets.

Sybil did all these knowing fully well the consequences. The ownership of a radio was an offence punishable by death in the eyes of the Japanese. She died in the United Kingdom in 1948, from injuries sustained during her incarceration in the Batu Gajah prison where she was tortured by the Japanese for refusing to give up information on those she helped. Sybil is arguably one of the most courageous, yet underrated figures in Malaysian history.
